The Ministry of human resources and Emiratisation announced the entry into force of the decision to expand the base of companies covered by the Emiratisation targets, next Monday, to include more than 12 thousand private companies, employing between 20 and 49 workers.
She revealed that about 12% of private sector jobs were classified as “green”.
In detail, the minister of human resources and Emiratisation, Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, stressed that the UAE’s experience reflects its commitment to enabling a fair transition for workers on its soil, through a comprehensive vision that puts the human being at the forefront of its priorities, and is based on the continuous development of skills, commensurate with the changing needs of the labor market, and the development of innovative and supportive social protection mechanisms to adapt to climate change, pointing to the classification of approximately 12% of private sector jobs as green jobs. “The UAE is at the forefront of countries that take the initiative in developing strategies and launching initiatives to support climate action,” Al Awar said, noting that the fair transition platform (which was opened during the COP28 events) provides a pioneering opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices in the fields of climate action, which contributes to drawing a road map to reach a more sustainable future.
He stressed that the ministry has been striving for a long time, through its policies in the labor market, to create a prosperous and attractive environment for talents from all over the world, maintain it, and provide appropriate conditions for their excellence and creativity, pointing to the ministry’s work on preparing a report to assess the status of green jobs in the country, as part of its efforts to study future labor market trends, address gaps, and propose action plans to build a more sustainable future in light of global changes and the effects of this transformation on workers and the labor market.
For its part, the Ministry of human resources and Emiratisation confirmed the entry of more than 12 thousand private companies employing between 20 and 49 workers to the Cabinet’s decision to expand the companies covered by the Emiratisation targets next January, by appointing at least one citizen in 2024, and another citizen during 2025.
She pointed out that this decision is expected to create approximately 12 thousand job opportunities annually during 2024 and 2025 for citizens in various vital economic sectors, which is in support of the Emiratization file, and complementing the success achieved by this vital file, which is a priority for the UAE government. The ministry explained that it is planned to impose annual financial contributions against companies that are not committed to achieve the required amount of AED 96 thousand for the citizen who has not been appointed, starting from January 2025 for the year 2024, while financial contributions of AED 108 thousand will be imposed in January 2026 for the year 2025, while companies will be allowed to installment the value of contributions in agreement with the ministry.
She also stressed that this decision comes in parallel with the continued implementation of Emiratization targets for companies with 50 employees and more, achieving a growth rate of 2% per annum in skilled jobs. She pointed out that the identification of these 12 thousand companies was carried out according to several criteria and data, including the quality of their jobs, their compatibility with the Emiratization targets and the work environment in them, their geographical locations and the nature of their growth, and other criteria that would attract citizens to work for them and continue in their jobs, pointing out that the choice of the national profile.
