An additional seven thousand members of the largest trade union of workers of the automotive sector in the United States, joined a large-scale strike against the three largest manufacturers in Detroit, “Ford”,”General Motors” and”stellantis”.
The strikers are seeking to force the leaders of the three major automakers in the United States of America, namely “General Motors”,”stellants” and”Ford” in order to increase salaries and improve presentations.
Sean Finn, president of the United Auto Workers Union, urged workers at the Ford and General Motors factories in Chicago and Michigan to join the strike, commenting “our brave members of these two factories are the new wave of reinforcements in our struggle for record contracts”.
“I call on the workers of Ford’s assembly plant in Chicago and the workers of General Motors’ Lansing Delta Township plant to get ready and strike,”Sean Finn said in a message broadcast live on the internet on Friday.
An official of the “Auto Workers Union” told AFP that the work stoppage began at noon, Eastern time of the United States, as scheduled.
The union is demanding a 40% pay rise for workers over four years, which is equivalent to what the group’s leaders have benefited from over the past four years, but car companies are currently offering only a 20% increase.
The strike, which was used by the “Automobile Workers Union”, began on September 15, with the aim of putting more pressure on major companies to reach an agreement.
After the accession of seven thousand additional members on Friday, the number of members of the “Auto Workers union” striking in 21 US states has exceeded 25 thousand, or about 17% of the total membership.
