Venezuela signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Big Data Research Center for Sustainable Development (CBAS) of China to establish broader cooperation in the processing and analysis of satellite images, Venezuela’s Ministry of Science and Technology reported.
“The Minister for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, signed a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry for Science and Technology and CBAS with the purpose of establishing broader cooperation in the processing and analysis of satellite images of various kinds as well as to decisively support the deepening of the nation’s digital transformation program,” the ministry said in a statement.
“The CBAS was inaugurated in Beijing in September 2021, and since then it has processed, analyzed, and disseminated satellite image data for the annual reports of different sustainable development goals in the world through various technological products,” according to the statement.
“The use of remote sensors and radars for Earth observation and digital Earth science makes it possible to facilitate the understanding of the multiple phenomena associated with climatic parameters, oceans, biological diversity, climate change, vegetation cover, and forest behavior, as well as other elements involved in sustainable development,” the statement indicates.
This agreement was signed within the framework of the official visit of the vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, to China, where on September 7, she met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of that nation, Wang Yi, to strengthen and promote alliances.
In addition, Rodriguez held a meeting with the president of the New BRICS Development Bank, Dilma Rousseff, to promote economic cooperation.
