The newspaper “el impulso” reported that 80% of the thermal power plants in Venezuela are out of service, and only a third of the thermoelectric power generation capacity is operational in the country.
The newspaper quoted Venezuelan engineer Juan Carlos Rodriguez, a member of the Venezuelan Observatory of public services, as saying that Venezuela’s capacity to generate thermoelectric energy is 36 thousand megawatts, but it generates only 12 thousand.
He noted that this is an insufficient power generation rate to meet the needs of the population, especially at peak times.
Rodriguez explained that 80% of the country’s thermal power complexes are out of service, which is why it is necessary to transfer large packages of energy through the transmission system from hydroelectric power plants in “Guyana” towards consumption centers.
Rodriguez said that the electrical failures that occur in many regions of Venezuela are usually due to malfunctions in the transport system.
He added that 53% of the country’s electricity comes from thermoelectric power generation, while the rest of the electricity, 47%, comes from hydroelectric power.
