The WhatsApp chat application “WhatsApp”, affiliated with meta platforms, announced that the application will stop working on millions of old phones from tomorrow, October 24, 2023.
WhatsApp explained, in a statement via the website, that users of the older model of Android phones will not be able to use the application after October 24, 2023 without getting new application updates.
The company pointed out that only version 5.0 and later versions of the Android operating system will be supported, explaining that WhatsApp will send a notification in advance to inform you that the operating system of your device will no longer be supported before ending its support.
Regarding the reason for stopping the messaging application on these phones, WhatsApp said: “hardware and software systems are constantly changing, so we regularly review the operating systems we support to make updates.
“These devices may also not have the latest WhatsApp security updates, or lack the functionality required to run the application, so we choose what we stop supporting every year, by looking at older devices and programs that still have the fewest people still using them,”she continued.
