Experts in the field of cybersecurity have warned users of the WhatsApp chat application against stealing personal accounts due to fake copies of the WhatsApp web WhatsApp web application, which is the version intended for computers and laptops.
According to a report from the newspaper “ The Mirror”, WhatsApp users have been warned of a new threat that can steal accounts, after discovering a new scam targeting accounts, where users are deceived when they try to access their conversations via the WhatsApp Web version of WhatsApp Web.
According to the newspaper, fraudsters are exploiting QR technology to gain full access to WhatsApp accounts via fake websites, which are similar to the original version of WhatsApp Web.
And once the fake QR code is scanned, the alarming trick allows scammers to immediately send messages from the victim’s account to their full contact list.
Police agencies in a number of countries, including Singapore, have also warned of the danger of such frauds, which ultimately lead to the theft of bank accounts.
The police advised that if you think you have used the fake WhatsApp web WhatsApp Web service, the police urge you to check all your linked devices as this may clarify whether your account has been hacked.
To check your linked devices regularly, just go to WhatsApp Settings and then linked devices to review all the devices associated with your account, and to remove a linked device, click on the device and then log out.
