The labor market in the UAE has continued to demand jobs related to sustainability in all sectors, which keep pace with the state’s strategies and plans to confront climate change and its negative effects, and within the state’s orientations to create new investment sectors for the green and circular economy, for which the state has allocated tens of billions of dirhams over decades.
Economic reports said : the UAE is emerging as an example to follow through its comprehensive methodology to provide green jobs, which supports the transition to a green economy, while the Council of ministers adopted during 2023 the National hydrogen strategy and the update of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, to enhance the country’s efforts to reach climate neutrality by 2050 and accelerate the global hydrogen economy.
He added that these strategies reflect the UAE’s commitment to sustainable energy production and strengthen its position among the leading and reliable countries for the production and provision of low-carbon hydrogen by 2031, and these strategies were of particular importance in the year of sustainability in the country, especially with the hosting of the cop28 conference.
Based on the updated targets of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, the country will invest between 150-200 billion dirhams until 2030 to ensure meeting energy demand and sustaining the growth of the country’s economy, as well as supplying the job market with 50 thousand new green jobs by 2030.
According to the UAE Green Economy Transformation jobs and Skills Report “global practices and national policies” issued by the Ministry of climate change and environment for the year 2017, the number of green jobs expected in the country will reach about 86 thousand jobs by 2030 .
The Center emphasizes that the labor market has witnessed a significant qualitative shift towards sustainability in recent years, driven by the urgent need to confront climate change, strengthen environmental protection and transition to a green economy.
Green jobs include a wide range of professions and roles in sectors : renewable energy, recycling, modern agriculture, green nitrogen and others, which will play a fundamental role in upgrading the economic landscape.
The latest data on the labor market shows a significant increase in green jobs in various regions, in the Chinese market it is expected that more than one million new jobs will be created in this sector by 2025.
The United States of America is witnessing a significant increase in green jobs, where 100 thousand jobs have been announced, while Singapore is witnessing a similar growth, supported by a number of sustainable strategies such as the “Green Plan 2030”.
According to forecasts, 30 million new jobs in the field of sustainability will be created in Southeast Asia by 2030, including key sectors such as solar energy, electric mobility and sustainable agriculture, as well as the contribution of the private sector in creating new roles such as the “sustainability executive director”.
