South Africa’s “Gold Fields” has lowered its production forecast for its upcoming gold exploration project in northern Chile during 2024, following the delayed start-up of the project.
Gold Fields said in a statement that the expected production of the “Salares Norte – Salares Norte” project during 2024 will range from 220 thousand to 250 thousand equivalent ounces of gold.
This compares with previous estimates between 400 thousand ounces and 430 thousand, and the statement explained that the project is expected to produce the first amount of gold by next April instead of this December.
“Gold Fields” kept its forecast for the project’s gold production in 2025 and 2026 unchanged at 600 thousand ounces.
