On Monday, President Javier Milei will be leaving Buenos Aires for Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF). He will have a layover in Germany before reaching his destination.
The leader of La Libertad Avanza will be embarking on their inaugural international journey as the head of the state.
The president’s office has not yet disclosed his final agenda, but they have leaked an important detail – they have received over 80 requests for meetings with political leaders, economists, and investors.
Presidential Spokesperson Manuel Adorni announced on Monday that Milei is scheduled to have a meeting with Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, during his visit to Switzerland.
After participating in a panel event with the world’s economic and political leaders at a well-known summit, the president will attend a meeting on Wednesday.
Adorni confirmed that the audience with Kristalina Georgieva has been scheduled, noting the interest being generated among world powers by the Argentine Government.
The spokesperson stated that they are aware that we have come back to accept and adopt the principles of liberty and capitalism.
After a significant achievement by the government, there will be a meeting with Georgieva. Argentina’s latest quarterly review was approved by the IMF staff last week, and they have agreed to provide US$4.7 billion in funds. However, the final approval from the executive board of the multilateral lender is still pending for the deal to be finalized.
Government sources say that Milei’s team has arranged a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, in addition to their facetime with Georgieva. The specifics of the meeting have not yet been determined or made known to the public.
At the Davos summit, Milei has been selected as a prominent speaker amongst over 100 attendees, including government officials, representatives from international organizations, and accomplished individuals from diverse sectors.
The president is scheduled to leave Buenos Aires on Monday at 5:50pm local time on a regular flight to Frankfurt, Germany. He will reach his destination on Tuesday at 11:05am local time (7:05am Argentina time). After a short layover, he will continue his journey to Zurich, and from there he will travel by land to the Swiss Alps, where the event is taking place.
During his time in Switzerland, it is anticipated that the president will come to the Steigenberger Icon Grandhotel Belvédère.
Milei, who is scheduled to fly back to Argentina on Friday morning, will be joined on his trip to Europe by Karina Milei, his sister and the secretary general to the Presidency, Cabinet Chief Nicolás Posse, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino, and Economy Minister Luis Caputo. Additionally, Gerardo Werthein, who is currently awaiting nomination as Argentina’s ambassador to the United States, will also be present.
The leader of the country is scheduled to deliver a speech on Wednesday at a panel discussion titled, “Attaining security and collaboration in a divided world,” in which he will present the key aspects of his economic strategy in front of global dignitaries.
Additionally, he is scheduled to have a meeting with Klaus Schwab, who is the person responsible for founding the international forum.
Other individuals scheduled to address the audience on the same day include Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the United States; Antonio Guterres, the General Secretary of the United Nations; Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister of Spain; and Macron.
