The Danish shipping group, Maersk, stated in a advisory note to its clients on Monday that it will be redirecting its M2 container service away from the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to the port of Ras Al-Raja.
The “M.E2” service connects Italy and the western Mediterranean to the eastern coast of India and the United Arab Emirates.
Vincent Clerc, the CEO of Maersk, stated last week that the global shipping disruption caused by attacks on ships in the Red Sea may last for at least a few months.
In a forum at Davos, Clarke added, “This means longer transition periods for us, and perhaps disruptions in the supply chain for at least a few months.
We hope for a shorter period than that, but it could also be extended because it is not possible to predict the actual extent of this situation.”
