In the first two weeks of the year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Argentina reached nearly 500,000, marking a significant increase of 33.5% compared to the same time last year.
According to information from the Interior Ministry, Argentina received a total of 460,000 international tourists during the first half of January.
According to a press release from the portfolio, international visitors spent a combined amount of $312 million while vacationing in this country during that time period. This represents a 10.5% increase in income compared to the earnings made in 2023.
A significant number of tourists arrived shortly after the peso’s value decreased by more than 50 percent. Despite this decrease, travelers still felt that they were getting good value for their money.
The majority of the foreign tourists that visited Argentina in the span of two weeks came from Brazil, accounting for 23.6 percent. Following closely were Uruguayans at 14.3 percent, and Chileans at the same percentage.
The United States ranked fourth among destinations outside of Latin America, with a share of 11.1 percent of all travelers.
A majority of foreign tourists coming to Argentina chose to arrive by land, with a total of 217,155 arrivals. This marked a significant increase of 36.9 percent compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, arrivals by sea increased by 29.5 percent and those by air by 3.11 percent.
In the 2023/24 season, the presence of cruise ships set new records. There was a significant increase of 30 percent in the number of tourists arriving through cruises, along with an eight percent rise in the number of dockings compared to the previous year. A total of around 700 dockings were recorded in this area, and approximately 750,000 international tourists visited via cruise ships.
