Air travel continued its recovery in December last year, and the total travel movement for 2023 is approaching levels of demand before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
According to a press release issued by IATA on Wednesday, total travel demand in 2023 (measured by passenger revenues per kilometer) increased by 36.9 percent compared to 2022, and overall travel demand for 2023 reached 94.1 percent of its levels in 2019.
The total travel movement for the month of December 2023 increased by 25.3% compared to December 2022, reaching 97.5% of the December 2019 level.
The travel activity in the fourth quarter reached 98.2 percent of its levels in 2019, indicating a strong recovery at the end of the year.
