Cecafe Industrial Group reported that Brazil, the world’s largest coffee exporter, shipped 2.29 million bags of green coffee weighing 60 kilograms abroad in June, 19% lower than the same month in 2022.
Exports of Arabica beans, the most productive type preferred by high-end cafes, fell by 23.3%, reaching 2.06 million bags, while shipments of Robusta increased by 60.5% to 230,653 bags, with farmers benefiting from record high prices for selling recently harvested crops, according to brecorder.
Cecafe’s June report saw the end of the 2022/23 Brazilian coffee season, with total green coffee exports for the season reaching 31.8 million bags, which is 10% lower than in the 2021/2022 season.
The industry group highlighted an 89% increase in sales to China in the season to 604,269 bags, as the Asian country remains a small importer compared to the first buyer, the United States of America at 6.85 million bags, but shipments to China are rising at a rapid pace.
