Data from the agricultural group “Unica” showed that sugar production in central and southern Brazil increased by 31% to a total of 2.19 million metric tons.
According to the Unica report, 34.77 million metric tons of sugarcane were crushed during this period, which is an increase of 32% over the previous year, in addition, the total ethanol production witnessed an increase of 29% to reach 1.64 billion liters.
In a recent report on the worldwide sugar market, the International Sugar Organization (ISO) noted a significant improvement and predicted a reduction in the global supply deficit in the 2023-24 season to 0.33 million metric tons, lower than the previous estimate of 2.11 million metric tons.
The organization attributed this positive shift, primarily to the significant increase in sugar production in Brazil, which the organization pointed to as the world’s largest sugar exporter.
