Apple has announced the launch of the tap to Pay feature on iPhones in Brazil, allowing independent sellers, small merchants and large retailers in the country to use iPhones as a payment terminal.
Introduced in February 2022, this feature allows compatible iPhones to accept payments via Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and other digital wallets, using only an iPhone, no additional hardware or a credit card machine is required.
Pressing to pay on iPhone uses NFC technology to securely authenticate contactless payments, in addition, the feature also supports entering a personal identification number (PIN), which includes accessibility options.
“The tap to Pay feature on the iPhone has helped companies around the world and of all sizes – from freelancers to large retailers – to introduce new payment experiences, and we are excited to offer an easy, secure and private payment solution to Brazilian merchants,”said Jennifer, vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.
Pressing to pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or newer models, and it works for customers like any normal Apple Pay transaction, sellers only need to open the application, register the sale, and present the iPhone to the buyer, who can then use a convenient contactless payment method.
Tap to Pay is available on the iPhone for more than 700,000 additional companies across the United States, Apple Stores in the United States have also introduced this feature, Brazil is the sixth region to support Tap to Pay, after similar rollouts in the UK, Australia, Taiwan and the Netherlands earlier this year.
