Argentina’s new foreign minister Diana Mondino said that her country will not join the BRICS group of developing countries, in a surprise decision from the country to which the BRICS group extended an invitation to join earlier.
New Argentine foreign minister Diana Mondino, via her official account on the social networking site ex Twitter, previously explained “”We will not enter the BRICS”.
Argentina was among six countries invited to become new members of the BRICS at a summit in South Africa in August, as part of the group’s efforts to modify the Western-dominated world order that it considers outdated.
The former Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs and international trade, Santiago Cafiero, said in press statements at the time that his country’s accession to the BRICS group represents great opportunities for the country’s foreign trade, as it includes countries important for Argentina’s trade.
“Argentina’s accession to BRICS represents great opportunities to participate in this mechanism within the organization, because it contains countries that are very important for Argentine trade,”Cafiero stated.
