Bolivian cattle ranchers expressed interest in expanding beef exports to Southwest Asian countries, Egypt, and Chile in the context of trade negotiations promoted by the Bolivian government.
“We already export to China, about 16,000 tons a year, which is 80% of our total sales abroad, but we bet on Egypt, Southwest Asia, and Chile, which also showed interest in importing meat from Bolivia,” said the president of the Confederation of Cattlemen of Bolivia (Congabol), Adrián Castedo, at a press conference.
”A delegation of the Agrarian and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile was in the country, which explored the phytosanitary conditions of production in the Bolivian departments of Santa Cruz (east) and Beni (northeast)”, Castedo explained.
“We consume 270,000 tons, and this year we already produced 320,000 tons of beef,” said the leader of the sector, who assured that the country has enough land to reach these indicators.
Bolivia exported 20,000 tons of beef in 2022, especially to China but also to Vietnam, Russia, and Ecuador, worth 128 million dollars, an amount that is 25 times less than the meat sales of countries such as Uruguay, according to data exposed by Castedo.
Bolivian beef production passed 300,000 tons in 2022, and this year is expected to be a record figure, according to producers’ expectations.
