Brazil has called on wealthy countries to pay money to finance the global transition to sustainable energy, as these countries need stronger commitments in order to offset their dependence on polluting energy sources.
According to Bloomberg News, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexander Silveira, said in an interview in New York that developing countries “cannot finance an energy transition similar to Europe and the United States,” and need help from the developed world.
He said that industrialized countries must take on greater challenges ,as”they get their energy from clean sources much cheaper than those in the global south”.As always .
Rich countries are likely to be asked again to invest more to help the world shift away from fossil fuels by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva when he addresses the UN General Assembly next week.
Since returning to power, he has been calling for more international support to contribute to the protection of the Amazon forest and provide financial solutions on climate.
