Brazil has joined the Global Coal Alliance, signing-Friday, November 24 (2023)- an agreement under which it became the 100th member of this alliance.
According to a statement by the Ministry of foreign affairs, Brazil has signed the agreement according to which the financing of renewable energy will be increased by 3 times by 2030, and the complete elimination of coal.
An official European source close to the issue revealed that Brazil, the largest country in South America, has become part of the agreement.
This comes despite the fact that in August (2021) the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy published a program that supports the coal sector until 2050 in the southern states of the country that include mines.
The Brazilian embassy in Abu Dhabi, in a letter addressed to the UAE Ministry of foreign affairs, said that the country will join the agreement of the “global pledge of renewable energy and energy efficiency goals”.
