With the ongoing search for more secure and effective digital identification systems, Brazil is taking confident steps towards the adoption of blockchain technology.
The Brazilian government has launched an initiative to integrate this technology into the national identity system.
Three states have been selected to be at the forefront of this technological transformation, namely:
Rio de Janeiro, Goias, Parana.
These states will issue identity documents based on the blockchain system.
This technical effort carried out by Brazil comes with the sponsorship and development of “Serpro”, the national body in charge of data processing in the country.
Alexander Amorim, President of Serpro, stated that the blockchain’s features, such as stability and decentralization, make it the ideal choice for such applications.
He explained that this technology will enhance the protection of personal data and reduce the possibility of fraud.
In addition to enhancing data security, the use of blockchain technology also aims to improve the exchange of information between various government agencies, especially with the Federal Revenue Authority.
This step comes within the framework of Brazil’s attempt to unify the identity system in all of its more than thirty states.
In a related context, Brazil has shown interest in digital solutions by announcing its intention to create a digital currency for its central bank, the one called “Drex”.
On the other hand, Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, is striving for a similar development.
It announced its plan to integrate administrative processes with blockchain technology, which will allow citizens to access digital identity documents with high efficiency, including birth certificates, marriage records, and academic verifications.
