Brazil’s farmers will harvest an estimated 317.5 million metric tons of grain this season, as huge soybean and corn crops make Brazil one of the world’s largest suppliers of agricultural commodities.
The government’s Food Supply and Statistics Agency (Conab) raised its second estimate for corn production to 98 million metric tons from 96.3 million tons in June, improving prospects for total corn and grain production in Brazil.
Corn, which accounts for about 75% of national production, is grown after harvesting soybeans in the same areas.
Brazilian soybean production will reach a record 154.5 million metric tons, according to data from the government’s Food Supply and Statistics Agency (Conab).
The data showed that total soybean production increased by 23% compared to 2022.
Total corn production will reach nearly 128 million metric tons, an increase of nearly 13%, the government’s Food Supply and Statistics Agency said, as farmers finish harvesting a second corn crop larger than ever.
In 2023, some second corn was planted in Brazil at a later date, outside the ideal climate window, due to delays in soy production.
