The president of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Osmar shehfa, announced the chamber’s intention to increase Brazil’s exports of halal products to Islamic countries, whether food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and other products.
During the opening of the second edition of the Brazilian – Global Halal Business Forum, which was held on October 23 and 24, shehfa explained that Brazil currently occupies 30% of the total exports of halal food products “such as poultry and meat” globally.
He pointed to the success of Brazil in strengthening its position as a major source of animal protein compatible with halal eating requirements. He also explained that halal products that comply with the principles of Islamic Sharia meet the needs of a wide range of Muslim consumers around the world.
He pointed out that the Muslim population is currently estimated at more than 1.9 billion Muslims, and they manage about 1.2 trillion dollars a year in the food sector. The proportion of the Muslim population is expected to reach 30% of the total world population by 2050.
He stressed the need to strengthen efforts to promote Brazilian halal products abroad and increase the availability of products manufactured and recognized as halal products. He stressed that this effort should include not only the food sector, but also a variety of products such as cosmetics, medicines, clothing and tourist services.
He explained that Brazil has an integrated strategy to promote its halal products in the Islamic world, and this strategy is based on cooperation between the Brazilian government and the private sector.
He pointed out that the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and the Brazilian agency for export and Investment Promotion have launched the Brazilian halal project, which aims to promote the introduction of Brazilian halal products to international markets through promotional campaigns and support the necessary certification processes.
He pointed out that during the past year, the chamber has organized trade missions and participated in important international exhibitions, including the Saudi halal exhibition in Saudi Arabia, Gulfood exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, and MIHAS in Malaysia.
Shehfa explained that the company “Halal do Brasil” has succeeded in educating more than 300 Brazilian food companies about the opportunities available in the Islamic markets and has begun the process of qualifying them to obtain halal certification.
