According to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Wealth on Tuesday, January 16th, Brazilian agricultural exports reached a total of 166.5 billion US dollars in 2023, which is an increase of 4.8% compared to 2022.
These exports accounted for 49% of Brazil’s total exports in 2023 (pictured above is the loading of soybeans at the Port of Paranagua in the state of Parana).
Last year, agricultural imports decreased overall. Brazil purchased a total of $16.6 billion worth of goods from other countries, which is 3% lower compared to what it imported in 2022.
According to a document from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, the revenues from soybean sales, which reached $6.49 billion, contributed the most to the total agricultural revenues, followed by the alcohol sector with $4.6 billion.
The soybean sector accounted for 40.4% of the total, followed by the meat sector with 14.1%, then the alcohol sector with 10.4%, and finally the grains, flour, and byproducts sector with 9.3%, and the forestry products sector with 8.6%.
Roberto Perosa, the Secretary of Commerce and International Relations at the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, emphasized in a ministry statement that the year 2023 was a year of great achievements in expanding exports, with Brazil opening 78 markets for its products. “
The year 2023 witnessed a historic turning point for the Brazilian agricultural sector, with significant progress in exports and market expansion, resulting in a record in foreign sales.”
