The wealthiest man in Mexico also urged to overcome the underdevelopment situation and increase investments in the country to stimulate the economy.
On Friday, Carlos Slim Helú, owner of Grupo Carso, stated that Mexico has not achieved the desired economic and industrial progress, which has prevented the country from accessing the third technological revolution.
In terms of politics and society, we have experienced stability with some issues in different areas, but we have not been able to achieve economic development or access the third technological civilization in the development of industrial society,” stated.
However, the owner of America Movil and Telmex also acknowledged that the country has great potential for further development, especially with the arrival of investments and new companies due to the phenomenon of relocation or “nearshoring”.
“We are experiencing a very unique and fortunate moment in Mexico,” expressed the wealthiest individual in Mexico during the 2024 Economic Perspectives Seminar held at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM).
The Mexican entrepreneur expressed his belief that Mexico’s patriotic strategy is enhancing the efficiency of established businesses in the country and boosting foreign sales.
Currently, factories are profiting from the promotion of national identity and efforts made by the government, as the increase in foreign currency value makes importing difficult and facilitates product exportation.
On the other hand, Slim Helú pointed out that there has also been a change in the perception of the proximity and interdependence of the United States economy, as he highlighted the competitive benefits of the treaty between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (T-MEC).
“He said that currently there is a shift from globalization to a kind of regionalization happening in Mexico.”
The wealthiest individual in Mexico has also expressed a desire to surpass the barrier of underdevelopment and make larger investments in the country, aiming to boost the economy.
“He said that it is necessary to overcome the obstacle of underdevelopment, delve into investment, increase investment, promote the economy, and return to unity without conflicts.”
