Chile’s total copper production rose by 0.02% to 454,800 metric tons in June, despite lower production at some major mines, according to the country’s Cochilco Copper Commission.
Codelco’s production fell 7.39% year-on-year to 120,300 tons, while Kolahuasi’s output fell 9.5% to 45,400 tons.
Earlier, the EU signed an agreement with Chile to acquire lithium and copper, the main raw materials for battery production and the automotive sector, in exchange for a commitment to strengthen the Chilean industry.
The Latin American country has asked its European partners to strengthen the value chain and create good jobs in its territory.
The European Commissioner for Markets and Internal Services, Thierry Breton, signed the agreement in the presence of the President of the European Commission and Chile, while the raw material extraction country was represented by the Minister, Alberto van Klaveren Stork.
The meeting was organized as part of initiatives to improve international cooperation in manufacturing in industries using sustainable materials. This series of initiatives is part of the portal’s global investment program and the provisions of the Critical Raw Materials Act.
