The conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change “COP 28” gives Arab youth an inspiring platform, to interact with environmental issues, and invent creative and proactive innovative solutions in the face of climate change challenges.
The Arab Youth Center’s pioneering initiatives are highlighted to enable Arab youth to play an active role in promoting climate ambition and advancing the course of global climate action.
In August 2021, in conjunction with the celebration of World Youth Day, the Arab Youth Center announced the launch of the “Arab Youth Council for climate change”, to form a regional platform that enhances the interaction of Arab youth with environmental issues, supports Arab strategies related to the environment and climate change, and contributes to the creation of opinion leaders and young innovators in the field of climate action.
The council was launched in cooperation with the league of Arab states, the Ministry of climate change and Environment, and the Office of the UAE Special Envoy for climate change affairs, in partnership with a number of Arab private sector institutions keen to contribute to climate action activities and efforts, to support youth work on climate change issues, and to involve youth in inventing creative and proactive sustainable solutions to the challenge of climate change.
Programs
In May 2022, the “Youth Climate Action Network” was launched, which aims to involve Arab youth from various disciplines in sustainability activities and programs, and to confront climate change.
The network, which initially included about 300 young men and women from all over the Arab world, sought to connect young people with experts, specialists and pioneers of environmental and climate action at the Arab world level, to enhance their passion for the environment, in addition to providing a reference database for ambitious Arab youth working on sustainability and climate change issues.the network also allows its members from various Arab countries to volunteer for climate action, as well as access to the latest Arab initiatives in the field of addressing the repercussions of climate change.
During the “road to COP28” event, organized by the COP presidency on March 15, led by youth at Expo City Dubai, the Arab Youth Center, during one day, trained more than 1,000 young men and women on the principles of climate awareness.
