A periodic report was released by the Minha Conexão website which analyses millions of fixed internet speed tests in the country. According to the site, the national average speed during this period was 159 Mbps. One resident provider is Starlink, which is owned by SpaceX and managed by Elon Musk. Starlink’s satellite internet company recorded an average download speed of 77.09 Mbps in Brazil. The results for the second quarter compared with the first quarter, where there was an 8.6% decline in performance (between January and March, Starlink’s average speed was 84.38 Mbps). However, the satellite internet company still had a higher average than its other competitors, such as HughesNet, which had 11.57 Mbps.
Satellite Internet is a good alternative to areas that are inaccessible by optical fiber or refrigerated cable due to distance. The process through which this type of Internet is purchased is different, as users need to purchase an antenna, modem and pay a monthly fee.
Recently, Starlink has reduced its prices in Brazil. Until August 17, those interested in subscribing to Elon Musk’s internet service will pay R $1,400 for equipment and a monthly fee of R $184. These prices enjoy a 20% reduction, with the regular amount of R $2,000 for grabs.
