Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Brazilian counterpart, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, agreed today, Thursday, to elevate the level of relations between the two countries to the level of a strategic partnership.
Ahmed Fahmy, the presidential spokesperson, stated on Facebook that the two presidents also agreed to establish a joint committee to enhance cooperation in various fields, with activation to take place during President Sisi’s upcoming visit to Brazil later this year.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva began an official visit to Cairo yesterday, which is the first by a Brazilian president in 20 years. During the visit, several agreements were signed between the two countries in the fields of science and technology, according to the Arab World News Agency.
The volume of trade between Egypt and Brazil reached 3.4 billion dollars in 2023, compared to 4.2 billion dollars in 2022, a decrease of 18%, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics data.
