American businessman Elon Musk wants all electric cars sold in Mexico, regardless of brand, to have a NACS connector, or charging system, developed by Tesla.
Unlike regions such as Europe or the United States, the type of connection that electric cars should have is not regulated in Mexico, and vehicles with Asian, European or American-style connections are offered indiscriminately.
However, the Tesla owner wants car brands to install the charging connector developed by his automaker on the units they sell in Mexico, and requires every driver to have a Tesla connector when charging in the country. Connect your car to a charging station of the same brand.

In the future, this will pave the way for automakers selling in Mexico to put a Tesla connector on their cars for convenience. The Mexican authorities could also take this scenario into account if at some point they decide to approve what kind of connector electric cars should have in Mexico.
In a short speech delivered by Eugenio jandeo, LATAM’s policy and business development consultant at Tesla, on Wednesday, the progress made by the NACS connector among car manufacturers in market units in Mexico was highlighted.
“We believe that NACS is the future in North America,”a Tesla executive told hundreds of attendees at the Electric Mobility Forum in Mexico City.
