Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, warned employees that there will be more layoffs in the search engine giant as the focus shifts to new priorities, including artificial intelligence.
Vitzay said in an email to employees, which was seen by AFP on Thursday: “These role reductions are not at the same level as last year’s reductions, and they will not affect every team. However, I understand that it is extremely difficult to see colleagues and teams affected.”
And he added, “Many of these changes have already been announced, although there will continue to be specific decisions made to allocate resources throughout the year as needed, even though they will be proactive, and some roles may be affected.”
Google has laid off approximately 12,000 individuals during this time last year, which accounts for about six percent of its workforce, in response to inflation and rising interest rates.
On Tuesday, the company confirmed that it will eliminate “a few hundred” jobs from its global advertising team, as part of a campaign to use artificial intelligence for efficiency and innovation.
According to the internet giant, the reduction of jobs in the “Key Customers” sales team aims to provide better support for small and medium-sized companies advertising on the Google platform.
According to TechCrunch, the company released approximately 100 employees from its “YouTube” division on Wednesday.
The newspaper “New York Times” noted that employees at “YouTube” have been given two months to find new jobs within the company before their dismissal takes effect.
