Sales of cars of Hyundai Motor Company, the largest automaker in Korea, and its subsidiary Kia in the US market have risen to exceed 1.5 million units this year.
Data showed that Hyundai and Kia sold 788,403 units and 722,176 units,respectively, during the period from January to November.
Hyundai’s figures include sales of its independent brand Genesis, which also set an annual record of 62,372 units.
The total figure represents the highest annual sales since Hyundai entered the US market in 1986. The highest recorded figure was 1.49 million recorded in 2021.
Meanwhile, South Korean automakers swept the final nominations for the 2024 North American Best Car Awards for the utility category, the winner of which will be announced next month.
The Hyundai Kona and Kona electric cars, the Kia “ev9” car, and the Genesis “GV70” electric car were named finalists in the utility category at the awards.
Hyundai also placed the all-electric Ionic 6 sedan in the final list of nominees for the 2024 North American Car of the Year awards.
The car was also nominated for the 2023 Global Best Car award at the New York International Auto Show in April.
