The attorney general of the state of New Mexico, Raul Torres, revealed that the state has filed a lawsuit against the company “meta”, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, because of the failure to protect children from sexual assaults on the internet.
Torres said in an official statement: “Our investigation into meta’s social media platforms shows that they are not safe spaces for children, but rather they are major sites for scammers and for trading immoral materials related to children, and luring minors to practice immoral acts.
“Meta has enabled dozens of adults to find, contact, pressure and sexually blackmail children, and this is what pushes children into a bad psychological state that may lead them to commit suicide,” he continued.
The company “meta” responded to these allegations, that they are working on sophisticated technology, employs experts in the field of child safety, and reports content to the National Center for missing and Exploited Children.
The technology, provided by the company “meta”, also shares information and tools with other companies and law enforcement agencies, including state prosecutors, to help protect children from the risk of exposure to this problem.
The company “meta” also announced that it disabled more than 500 thousand accounts for violating the policies of immoral exploitation of children.
Zuckerberg said that the executives of “meta” company are aware of this danger to children, and are dealing with this problem and trying to provide quick and sophisticated solutions to avoid this problem.
For his part, the attorney general of Montana, Osen Knudsen, announced that the state will sue the meta company, saying through his official account on the “Instagram” site, insisting that there is deliberately by the meta company on the existence of these things that increase the addiction to seeing sexual contents in young people.
