The giant technology and internet services company “meta platforms”, the owner of the Facebook and Instagram platforms, said that it will require advertisers who publish political promotional content produced with the help of artificial intelligence to advertise.
This applies, for example, to creating content that mistakenly gives the impression that someone said or did something through artificial intelligence technologies.
Artificial intelligence technologies can generate realistic images by simply entering simple specifications, which makes it easier to create photos or videos with erroneous information.
The company said that advertisers posting such ads are not obliged to disclose the timing of the creation or modification of such digital content when it is not influential for the claim, assertion or problem that the ad is talking about, such as cropping an image or color correction, unless such changes have a material impact on the claim, assertion or problem raised in the ad.
Earlier this week, meta unveiled new rules for the use of artificial intelligence in political advertising.
Meta has decided to ban political campaign designers and advertisers in government-regulated public sectors from using its generative AI-based advertising products.Meta of this step aims to prevent the possible misuse of its AI-based tools and the dissemination of misleading electoral information.
