The competition to climb the ranks of automotive export leaders has intensified as the United States, Japan, Mexico, and China remain at a short distance fighting for second place.
The undisputed leader is the European Union, which in 2022 had automotive exports worth 899,000 million dollars, according to data from the WTO (World Trade Organization).
The United States and Japan followed with exports of $138 billion and $135 billion, respectively.
Mexico climbed to fourth place, ahead of China, with $129 billion in auto exports.
The automotive industry has managed, in 2023, to recover little by little from the blow represented by the pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Despite progress, production and export levels are still below the most recent historical levels on record.
