Microsoft is taking steps towards greater independence and enhancing potential performance in artificial intelligence devices.
This is being achieved through the development of a new network card specifically designed for the AI server chip Maia, as reported by The Information.
This move is aimed at improving the performance of the Maia AI server chip and reducing the company’s reliance on chip designer Nvidia, thus contributing to an enhanced Azure cloud experience.
According to the report, the company’s CEO, Satya Nadella, has appointed Bradip Sindhu, who co-founded the network equipment development company Juniper Networks, to lead the network card efforts.
Microsoft acquired Sindhu’s startup company Fungible, specializing in data processing units, last year.
