The popular instant messaging application WhatsApp recently added “secret codes” to conversations, allowing them to be completely locked and hidden.
This feature is intended to allow people to have a conversation that will not be visible even within the list of conversations.
Instead, it can only be found by typing this code in the search bar at the top of the application.
This feature is intended to be “another layer of privacy to protect your most sensitive conversations”. They have been specially designed for people who may need to keep important conversations completely hidden, even from people who have access to their phone.
WhatsApp described the feature as a way to protect chats and”make it difficult to find them if someone has access to your phone, or if you share the phone with someone else”.
The new feature follows a similar feature “Chat Lock”, which was announced earlier this year. When chats are locked, they are taken out of the Inbox and placed in the “locked chats” section, which requires a password or biometric authentication such as a fingerprint to unlock.
“We think this feature will be great for people who have a reason to share their phone from time to time with a family member or those moments when someone else holds your phone at the very moment when an additional private conversation arrives, “WhatsApp said at the time.
Chats can be locked by long-clicking on a conversation in the menu and choosing the lock option. It can be found again by slowly clicking on the Inbox, which will cause the prompt to open it to appear.
