During a meeting in Davos, President Javier Milei will get an opportunity to discuss the future course of Argentina’s association with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
According to presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni, the Argentine leader, who implemented a significant economic plan after assuming office on December 10th, is scheduled to meet Georgieva on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum. The forum is being held in a Swiss town in the Alpines.
Georgieva’s leadership at the IMF resulted in a significant endorsement of Milei’s economic proposals on January 10. This endorsement led to the approval of a review of the country’s US$44-billion program, which is expected to result in a loan disbursement of US$4.7 billion for the South American nation, pending board approval.
Milei will inevitably face a decision regarding whether to maintain the existing program, which was previously endorsed by his predecessor, or engage in discussions for a new one.
Economy Minister Luis Caputo has scheduled a private meeting with Georgieva on Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by Chief of Staff Nicolas Posse. Additionally, he will be part of a panel discussion on preventing economic crises moderated by the IMF chief on Thursday. On Wednesday, Caputo will also speak about Argentina’s economic program in another panel.
Milei’s main focus will be on political leaders, while his economy chief will have a different agenda, meeting with business and banking leaders such as Gary Nagle, CEO of Glencore International AG, André Esteves, co-founder of Banco BTG Pactual SA, and Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, who controls Louis Dreyfus Co.
According to her press office, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino is scheduled to have separate meetings with business executives from Visa inc, Nestle SA, and Merck & Co Inc.
