The deputy minister of petroleum industry of Venezuela, Eric Jacinto Perez, said that his country is holding talks with the United States of America in order to reach an agreement on easing sanctions imposed on Venezuela, adding that the Venezuelan government is currently working with the US authorities to make these negotiations a success.
Eric Jacinto Perez noted that the US sanctions are causing great harm to the Venezuelan economy and that the government is currently working to ease them.
It should be noted that last August, news reports, citing informed sources, revealed that the administration of US President Joe Biden is holding talks with the authorities in Venezuela, which are aimed at easing the sanctions imposed on them in exchange for allowing fair elections to be held next year.
The sources explained that the talks include senior officials from both countries, including the president of the Venezuelan congress, Jorge Rodriguez, and that the United States put forward the idea of easing sanctions to convince the regime of President Nicolas Maduro to hold competitive presidential elections in 2024, and the release of political prisoners.
