The world’s richest countries are meeting today in the German city of Bonn, where they are expected to announce the amounts they will invest in the largest multilateral climate finance fund, while eyes are turning to America, which has not revealed anything about its intention so far.
The Green Climate Fund grew out of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement and funds solar panels in Pakistan, agricultural projects in the Philippines and other climate projects in developing countries.
So far, it has disbursed 3 billion dollars and made commitments of 12 billion dollars, according to the fund, but its ambitions are much greater, it wants to increase its capital, of 17 billion dollars, to 50 billion dollars by 2030, and the Green Climate Fund has committed more than 200 projects so far, mostly in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean.
According to” AFP”, many donor countries, including Britain, European Union countries, Canada and South Korea, announced the provision of new funds in billions of dollars before the conference, but America has not announced whether it wants to donate funds.
