The first contact took place between IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and Argentine President-elect Javier melliol, according to various media reports.
There was talk about the Argentine economy, which is among the most inflated and indebted in the world.
“We discussed the great challenges facing the Argentine economy and the necessary decisive political measures,” Georgieva said in a tweet on the X-platform.
She added that the IMF will support efforts to reduce inflation in the country, which currently exceeds 140%, improve its public finances and raise private sector-led growth.
Argentina avoided a debt default to the IMF after it paid 2.6 billion dollars in October in its 43 billion dollar program, the fund’s largest. More than 40% of the Argentine population lives in poverty.
