The administration of the new Argentine president Javier Mele said that his government will not renew the contracts of more than five thousand employees hired this year before he took office.
“The move is part of a comprehensive plan to reduce employment and devalue the Currency announced by Javier Melli since he took office on December 10 to transform Argentina’s struggling economy,”the president’s administration explained.
The authorities said that ” the contracts of other government employees, hired before 2023, will be reviewed,” and Mili also pledged to reduce government regulations and salary scales, and allow the privatization of state-run industries as a way to promote exports and investment.
The steps include devaluing the Argentine peso by 50%, cutting energy and transport subsidies, and closing some government ministries.
More than a thousand demonstrators gathered in front of the presidential palace in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, protesting against the policies and actions of the new president Javier Mele, 10 days after he took office.
Argentina also witnessed violent confrontations between police and demonstrators, in the first popular response to Javier Mele’s decision to cancel 300 economic and social legislation in the country.
