The US Department of Energy announced an order for the purchase of 3 million barrels of oil for delivery in March 2024, as part of its plan to strengthen the strategic oil reserve, aimed at securing supplies in the event of any crisis.
The ministry said in a statement that it is seeking to buy oil at a price of 79 dollars per barrel or less, which is lower than the price at which it sold oil last year, which averaged 95 dollars per barrel.
It added that it has already purchased about 9 million barrels of oil at an average of 75 dollars per barrel, to increase the strategic reserve stock, which currently stands at about 600 million barrels.
