Venezuela and Guyana have announced that they have agreed not to use force or threat in the face of the dispute between them over the border region of Essequibo, which has large oil reserves.
The announcement came after a meeting between the president of Venezuela, “Nicolas Maduro”, and the president of Guyana,” Mohammed Irfan Ali”, in the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining good neighborliness and peaceful coexistence between the two countries.
The two leaders said that they will respect international law and the basic principles of the United Nations, and that they will not resort to force or threat in any circumstances, including those caused by any existing differences between the two states.
