Venezuelan foreign minister Ivan Gil Pinto met with the minister of Mines and energy of the Republic of Namibia, Tom alwindo, and the parties expressed the desire of their countries to strengthen cooperation relations in the field of energy.
To date, the two countries have signed more than 20 cooperation documents in the political, educational, cultural, communications, mining, oil, agriculture and other fields.
Relations between Venezuela and Namibia date back to 1990, but were strengthened with the arrival of the Bolivarian revolution led by Hugo Chavez, who designed the strategic vision towards Mother Africa, while implementing a new foreign policy based on rapprochement and recognition.
The recent discoveries of significant oil reserves in southern Namibia have made it a potential source of crude oil by 2026.
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister has expressed his country’s hope to become a member of the “BRICS” soon, considering that the expansion of the bloc is very important for the energy sector, as a bloc on its way to cover 80% of global oil reserves and production.
