The UAE has been appointed to chair the World Bank’s cloud computing working group, in recognition of the country’s digital transformation efforts.
Dr. Bushra Al Balushi, senior research and innovation consultant at digital Dubai’s Dubai Cyber Security Center (DESC), chaired the Working Group meeting on November 28, according to a statement issued by the Dubai Media Office late on Thursday.
The Working Group, previously led by Singapore and the United Kingdom, brings together 27 countries, international groups and major companies with the aim of developing global standards and practices in the field of cloud computing.
According to Hamad Obaid Al Mansouri, Director General of digital Dubai, the UAE’s choice to lead the World Bank body “reflects the exceptional reputation” of the country in the fields of new technology and cloud computing.
Al Mansouri pointed out that cloud computing is a “fundamental pillar” of smart cities and”digital knowledge societies”.
“The appointment of the UAE to chair the [Working Group] demonstrates the leading position that the country has reached in the field of future technologies in general, and cloud computing in particular,”said Al Balushi.
“The UAE has successfully confirmed its presence on the world stage as a center of technological innovation and an inspiring model of digital transformation,”he said.
The World Bank working groups bring together experts from public and private sector stakeholders around the world.
They are engaged in the development of cognitive products, which may include playbooks, guidance notes, surveys and benchmarks, according to the World Bank website.
